TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Zambian President Michael Sata passed away on Tuesday at King Edward VII Hospital, London on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. As cited by Reuters, the Zambian leader died at the age of 77 after undergoing treatment for an undisclosed disease.
Temporarily, Defense Secretary Edgar Lungu or Vice President Guy Scott will replace Sata. The Zambian constitution states that a new election will be held within 90 days.
Sata left Zambia for medication since October 19, accompanied by his wife and family members. Previously, Sata’s health has significantly dropped since his last public appearance in June.
Sata also missed the scheduled United Nations hearing in September when he collapsed in a hotel in New York.
