TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, said that he had conducted preparation to anticipate flood disasters that often occur every year. The preparation was made by all working units from regional to sub-district level. "We are more prepared than last year," said Ahok on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
He explained that anticipation measures include sheetpile installation on riviers in Jakarta to reduce flood impacts on the northern part of the capital.
Other projects include the construction of the Marunda and Pluit Reservoirs, which function as water catchment areas in times of rainy season.
However, Ahok said that there are still many slum areas along riverbanks, which hampers the river normalization project.
