TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Victor Laiskodat, the chief of the National Democratic (NasDem) faction at the House of Representatives (DPR), said political parties under the Great Indonesia coalition are forming counter DPR leaders to elect House leaders. They also asked President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of the Legislative Institution Law, known as MD3.
According to Victor, the move was made as a vote of no confidence to House leaders who made apparent efforts to obstruct the Jokowi administration.
Among the names proposed as House leaders are Pramono Agung from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as House speaker; Abdul Kadir Karding from the National Awakening Party (PKB), Patrice Rio Capella from the NasDem Party, Syafullah Tamliha from the United Development Party (PPP) and Dossy Iskandar Prasetyo from the People’s Conscience (Hanura) Party; as deputy speakers.
“We don’t want Jokowi’s Cabinet to be politically stymied. So we issued a vote of no confidence against the current House leaders,” Arif Wibowo, a member of the PDI-P Faction, said on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
Arif said the plea to issue a government regulation in lieu of law will be sent to Jokowi. The government regulation is expected to prompt the dismissal of House leaders and division heads. According to Arif, many provisions in the new MD3 law are prone to budget inefficiency and democratic violation.
