TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia AirAsia Extra will begin operating the Bali-Melbourne route beginning December 26. “The frequency is five times a week,” said Indonesia AirAsia Extra president director Soeratman Doerachman on Monday.
Indonesia AirAsia Extra received Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Transportation Ministry on August 28, while its operating license from the government was issued on January 23.
Soeratman said the aviation market from Australia to Bali was large. “Around 25 percent of foreign tourists visiting Bali are from Australia,” he said.
He continued the number of tourists travelling from and to bali rose by 13 percent in 2013. He added the Bali-Melbourne route would amplify the budget airline's expansion both regionally and internationally.
For this long-haul flight, Indonesia AirAsia Extra uses the Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which boasts a capacity of 337 seats with 12 flatbed seats.
Indonesia AirAsia Extra is the second AirAsia X affiliate outside of Malaysia after Thai AirAsia Co. Ltd.
