Japan Sends Most Participants to 2014 Jakarta Marathon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- About 976 runners from around the world took part in the 2014 Jakarta Marathon held on Sunday, October 26, 2014. The runners were from 47 countries.

"Japan sends most participants; it's around 400 participants," said Sapta Nirwandar, Chairman of the 2014 Jakarta Marathon Committee.

This year's Jakarta Marathon is arguably the best running competition in Indonesia and has been held for the second time.

The race began at the National Monument (Monas) and passed through several spots such as the Old City, the Jakarta Cathedral, Sudirman and Kuningna areas, Pancoran, Senayan and ended in Monas again.

The total route is 42,195 kilometer.

The marathon did not only attract common runners. Five national runners took part in the event. They were Agus Pragoyo, Hendro, Atjong Tio, Mery Paijo, dan Erni Ulatningsih.

In the meantime, international professional runners taking part in the event are Philemon Kipchilat and Hillary Khipchirchir Kimaiyo from Kenya, as well as other runners from Malaysia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, UK, US, India, the Philippines, and Singapore.

The total prize offered in the event for five categories amounts to Rp2.4 billion.
