TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Disgraced poet Sitok Srengenge has demanded a DNA test on the infant that RS—the woman that Sitok allegedly raped—gave birth to recently.  “The biological test is to check genetic similarities,” said Feryan H. Nugroho, Sitok’s lawyer, on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Feryan said DNA testing was necessary for the sake of the infant in the future. “Sitok has said he is willing to take care of the child,” he said.

Sitok asked for DNA testing after learning RS was about to give the child’s custody to a third party. “Once again, our client wants to take responsibility,” Feryan reiterated.

Sitok Srengenge has been accused of raping RS, a college student, which resulted in unwanted pregnancy. RS reported Sitok to the Jakarta Police in November last year.

The police named Sitok as suspect on October 6, 2014 and summoned him last week for questioning.

Sitok is charged with Article 355 of the Criminal Code on unpleasant acts, Article 286 on sexual intercourse outside of marriage and Article 294 paragraph 2 on molestation.
