TEMPO.CO, Abuja - The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Nigeria free from the Ebola virus after six weeks without new detected Ebola infection case. Rui Gama Vaz, WHO representative in Abuja, proudly retell the story of Nigeria's effort in fighting Ebola.
The plague that hits nations in West Africa has caused so much problems to all healthcare workers, scientists, and policy makers. Currently, the epidemic has reached a total of 9,000 cases.
In Nigeria, the plague was contained using strict public healthcare service. Once diagnosed, suspected Ebola patients will be isolated with sufficient healthcare service. Moreover, the next step to contain the virus is by shutting down flights, which was effectively put down the number of Ebola patients in Nigeria. Moreover, Gama Vaz also suggested that intensive measures, such as developing vaccine and therapeutic medication, are also necessary.
