TEMPO.CO, Bogor – Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto said the severe congestion in Bogor was caused by multiple factors, but the most serious one was the city’s poor spatial planning.
Bima added the congestion was also attributable to the high number of non-Bogor residents who made the city their favorite destination for training location, residences and vacation.
The mayor pledged he would immediately take necessary measures to alleviate congestion and improve the quality of public transports in the city.
In the short run, Bima said the city administration would continue reorganizing congestion-prone areas, executing traffic engineering, and reordering street vendors.
As for the long run, Bima said he would cut the number of public transports in the city and channel their passengers to the Transpakuan mass transport. “And reorganize economic hubs and tourism spots so they also exist on the outskirts,” he said.
Yugi Hartiman, the chief of the Railway and Land Transportation Development of the Transportation Ministry, said the traffic congestion in Bogor was the worst in the country as it traffic speed was recorded at only 15.3 km/h while its volume per capacity (VC) ratio stood at 0.86 percent.
