TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - MTV Indonesia will resume broadcasting in the nation beginning November. MTV Indonesia will be aired by four local TV stations in five major cities—Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Banjarmasin and Makassar—from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., targeting an extended 12 million households.
In relation to MTV's business expansion, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Asia, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc., will team with Forte, the marketing and distribution partner of MTV in Indonesia.
“As the biggest global brand and the most renowned brand for the youths, MTV has solid ties with Indonesian youths,” said Mark Whitehead, the executive vice president and managing director of Viacom International Media Networks Asia.
Whitehead also said the expansion was a form of his company's committment to cementing the bond with local audiences and crafting programs that appealed to the country's young generation—with a campaign dubbed "1,000% Anak Muda" (1,000 percent Youths).
MTV will also provide international and national top shows such as Chart Attack, MTV Hits, K-Wave (K-pop), and Japan Hits (J-Pop). MTV will also organize MTV VJ Hunt Indonesia, the search for new faces to represent MTV in Indonesia.
MTV is an entertainment station with a global reach of over half a billion viewers. MTV Indonesia was once a reference to the Indonesian pop culture. Airing since 1993, MTV Indonesia ceased broadcasting in 2012.
