TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) expected the presidency staff to give their best services towards President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). “Give support, help and your best services to our President and the First Lady as it has been given to me and Mrs Ani,” SBY said after a welcoming ceremony for Jokowi in the Merdeka Palace on Monday, October 20.
According to SBY, the coming and going of a leader is a necessity. However, he added, every leader would want to do their best for the country and nation. “A leader, whoever they are, could never carry a duty alone. They’ll need help, support and services, especially from the presidency and the people of Indonesia.”
SBY apologized to all staff members of the presidency and cabinet members under his leadership if there were any mistakes, oversights and failure that he had done during his reign. “Today, I would like to say goodbye to my office that I have used along with the government which I have led all this time,” he said.
SBY also wished goodluck towards Jokowi. “We will all pray that Mr. Jokowi will succeed in carrying the country and nation’s duty for the next five years,” SBY said in a statement. Jokowi responded to SBY by thanking him for his dedication all these years. “I hope Mr SBY will always be given strength, health and longevity,” Jokowi said in a statement.
