TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A variety of West Java's flora and fauna were expressed through classic and contemporary batik motifs presented in the West Java's Southern Coastal Batik Exhibition at the Textile Museum Jakarta yesterday.
The exhibition organizer from West Java Batik Foundation, Komarudin Kudiya, said that the West Java's Southern Coastal Batik displayed until October 26 captures the richness of flora and fauna in the coastal areas from Pangandaran Subdistrict, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Tasikmalaya, Garut and Ciamis.
Among the batiks in display, there are batiks with tortoise motif from Ujung Genteng, Sukabumi and also orange motif from Garut.
The tortoise's carapace - a fauna from Sukabumi - becomes an inspiration to create a batik motif with variety of colors dominated in red, blue and light yellow while Garut’s orange motif is expressed in batik fabric with a color blend of red, yellow, dark green and brown.
There is also a contemporary batik motif with tea picker or rice image from Cianjur District and jangilus fish motif from Sukabumi District.
Nurjaman, 70, from Tasikmalaya, said that classic batik motif is still the consumers' choice. "The stork motif from Garut is highly desirable," he said.
