TEMPO.CO, Kathmandu - Nepalese search and rescue team on Thursday, October 16, 2014, scoured the Himalayan hiking routes to look for more than one hundred trekkers who have been out of contact since a snowstorm and avalanche earlier this week. Channel News Asia reported that the disaster has killed around 32 people, including foreign tourists and guides. At least 24 bodies had been found on the popular Annapurna circuit.
In total, there were 168 foreign tourists registered to hike in the districts. "[However] many people are unaccounted for [...] several Nepalese could also be caught up in the snowstorm," said Ganesh Rai, the police official in charge.
Previously, Himalaya was under severe snowstorm and avalanche, triggered by the tail of Hudhud cyclone. The cyclone had also hit India, killing dozens of people.
