TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Momo Restaurant and Bar become an alternative place to hang out on Jalan Senopati, South Jakarta. The Momo was opened on May 2014 and has recently become talks among foodies.
The Momo adopts izakaya -- which means eating snack together -- originated from Japan. Izakaya is popular among employees in Japan as can be seen in Japanese animations such as Crayon Sinchan and Doraemon. Sinchan’s and Nobita’s dads are often stop by a bar to drink some sake.
In Jakarta, The Momo is aiming the office workers around Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, about a kilometer away from Senopati.
“All menu served here can be shared,” said Agung, a waitress, as quoted by Koran Tempo.
Differently from authentic izikaya, Momo does not serve sake, the Japanese alcoholic drinks which were made of fermented rice. Instead, the bar offers row of various alcoholic drink from wine to cocktail. This is a form of ‘urban’ izikaya.
The Momo’s signature dish is the okonomiyaki, a pancake with shrimp and squid filling, sauced with mayonnaise amd seasonings -- sometimes even sushi. For those who don’t favor Japanese foods can try its pasta.
You can also try Beng-Beng Cake which is the favorite dessert in the restaurant. The cake is a chocolate cake coated with rice crispy and served with vanilla ice cream. As an alternative to the alcoholic beverages, there are mocktails such as Fruit Loop that has the colors of traffic lights: green, yellow and red.
Of course, you have to dig your pocket deeper if you want to sit here with style.
For the cocktail, for example, is priced for Rp55,000 whereas the okonomiyaki is priced for Rp65,000, and Beng-Beng Cake for Rp50,000, all excluding 20 percent tax.
It is recommended that you book a seat prior to coming to this bar on weekends, since The Momo is often overcrowded on weekends.
