TEMPO.CO, Seoul - North and South Koreas exchanged fire yesterday in the Demilitarized Zone, the disputed border.
BBC reported that the incident was triggered as South Korean activists launched balloons containing leaflets condemning North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un, which has become a routine as part of their protest against nuclear test conducted by North Korea.
Pyongyang had warned that there would be consequences if Seoul allowed the activist to carry on their act.
South Korean military official told news agency Yonhap that the North started the fire toward balloons. Since shots landed on south of the border, South Korea responded with fires.
Early reports mentioned there were artillery fires, but South Korean Defense Ministry officials told Reuters that it was gunfire that was exchanged. So far, no reports on fatalities on both sides.
