TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Zainal Arifin Mochtar, a state administration lecturer at Gadjah Mada University, said that Prabowo Subianto’s younger brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo had failed to comprehend the state administration law.
Zainal said albeit the House could refute the names proposed by the government to fill strategic posts, the president was the one with the authority to propose the names.
"He has to read the legislation first," Zainal told Tempo.
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the deputy chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party's supervisory board said he was set to stymie the agenda of the Joko Widodo administration.
Hashim said that the Red and White coalition (KMP), led by losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, would veto a hundred posts in Jokowi's government, among them the positions of National Police chief, Armed Forces commander, and Supreme Court (MA) chief justice and Constitutional Court (MK) chief justice.
Hashim said he was confident his coalition would be successfull in hindering the Jokowi administration as the coalition had secured the majority of seats both at the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
Zainal also said chances were slim for the coalition to pressure the president to approve of their candidates.
