Transjakarta to Operate 100 Double-Decker Buses along ERP Zones

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration plans to deploy 100 double-decker buses along the capital's electronic road pricing (ERP) zones.
"Residents who wish to travel through the ERP zone may opt to use the double-decker buses, which is free of charge. We will provide 100 units ourselves," said the Transjakarta executive director Antonius N.S. Kosasih in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Antonius, the provision of the free bus rides across the ERP zones would serve as an incentive to get more people to ride their car less and switch to the public transportation network.
"Residents who wish to travel within the ERP zone may use the free buses instead of their cars or motorcycles, which is hoped to have an impact on congestion by reducing the amount of vehicles on the road," said Antonius, who hopes that the 100 units will serve Jakarta residents well.
"A bus will arrive at the shelter to pick up passengers every seven to 10 minutes, so passengers won't have to wait too long for a bus," said Antonius.
Furthermore, he said that the double-decker buses would not have the same specification as the units in Jakarta's tourist double-decker fleet. "The capacity is increased. ERP buses can accommodate 140 passengers, both standing and seated," said Antonius.
