TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) weather station in Semarang, Central Java, said that temperatures peaked at 36,30 degrees Celsius in the afternoon on Thursday, October 9, 2014 - an extreme variance from the average daily temperatures in the area.
"It's so hot," said Semarang BMKG forecaster Tris Adi Sukoco, on Thursdau, October 9, 2014. He said that the extreme temperatures experienced in Semarang is because the dry season is at its' peak. In fact, temperatures reached 37,74 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, October 9. "That is the highest reading we've received this year," said Tris.
According to Tris, the temperatures are similar to the record temperatures reached in 1972 - on October 13, the temperature in Semarang reached 38,07 degrees Celsius.
Aside from the high temperatures, BMKG is also taking note of the average humidity in the area, which is currently at 24 percent - 40 percent below the average humidity. BMKG warns resident that the dry heat may cause adverse health conditions.
