TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency routinely held illegal parking operation across Jakarta. Up until September 2014, the agency has reportedly towed a total of 130 cars. "The operation will continue until there is no more illegal parking," said Transportation Agency Chief Muhammad Akbar.
Akbar said that there are 15 cars towed every day. The owner of illegally parked cars will be charged with a Rp. 500,000 fine to take the car out of the impound. The money, however, will be given to the towing company instead of the agency. "We do not make a living out of it. We endorse awareness, instead," said Akbar.
Generally, Akbar said that the towing operation has been considered effective. "They are afraid to violate the regulation because they will have to pay," he said. The operation takes place in five areas in Jakarta, namely Tanah Abang, Marunda, Kalibata, Jatinegara, and Jakarta Kota Station.
