TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Govenor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said he was not disturbed by the planned protest by the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) against him on Wednesday.
Ahok said he was already used to taking on threats and rejection against him by various groups.
“They always make threats. It’s nothing,” said Ahok on Tuesday.
The FBR is protesting the imminent installation of Ahok as Jakarta governor to replace president-elect Joko Widodo. Earlier, members from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) also staged a similar protest, saying Ahok was a non-Muslim and arrogant.
Ahok said he was not bothered by the threats and did not make any preparation, including requesting special security, to face the protesters.
"Stating a demonstration is the right of every person. They have the right to express their opinions," Ahok said.
However, Ahok warned he would take legal actions if the protest turned chaotic. "They are the ones who enter our place," he said.
