TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hidayat Nur Wahid, member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Faction at the House of Representatives (DPR), believes that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s plan to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) will be rejected by the House of the Representatives (DPR). Hidayat said the procedures require that the Perpu has to be proposed to the DPR.

“If SBY insisted on passing the Perpu, I believe that the DPR would not approve it during the vote,” Hidayat said on Wednesday, October 01, 2014.

Hidayat projected that the number of DPR members from the Red-and-White Coalition would be larger than that of direct election supporters. In addition, Hidayat said, President SBY has no solid reason to issue the Perpu.

“Give me one solid reason for SBY to issue the Perpu. Disaster? Instability? No constitution? Things are fine right now,” Hidayat said.

Hidayat ensured that the PKS respected President Susilo’s constitutional right to draft the Perpu. However, Hidayat said, President Susilo must also consider that the regional elections bill was passed in the right procedures and in accordance to existing mechanisms.
