TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Administration expert from Andalas University Saldi Isra said that the constitution does not stated that members and head of the People’s Council (MPR) are obligated to attend the inauguration of Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla, on October 20. "[However] Missing the inauguration [of Jokowi] might as well be called suicide," said Saldi.
Previously, parties in Merah Putih Coalition are reported to skip the inauguration. Head of the Great National Movement Party (Gerindra) Faction Ahmad Muzani said that the party is yet from confirming attendance.
On the other hand, Head of Gerindra Party Faction in MPR, Martin Hutabarat, denied the rumor. "There is no such scenario," he said.
Having absent from the inauguration, Saldi said, can make them as the enemy of the people. He added that the councilmen are tested in the inauguration. "After coming to the inauguration, they can return to their political battle. That is fine," said Saldi. "They cannot escape [from not attending the inauguration] under any reasons."
