TEMPO.CO, Surakarta – The Balekambang Park in Surakarta on Sunday, September 28 looked more vibrant than on regular days as additional activities performed and attractions placed to amuse visitors: children rides, coloring tents and a stage for children to show off their cute costumes.
The costumes shown were all of animal-themed, with children donning colorful costumes of crabs, shrimps and sailors.
“We want to introduce various sea animals to children. It’s been known for a while that fish are the only sea animals that are edible,” said Kristiana Kusuma from the event organizer.
Kristiana said introducing seafood variety to children would make them be aware of seafood choices besides fish, adding that the nation’s seafood consumption was still relatively low.
“We want to invite children to consume seafood since early,” she said.
Kristiana said the event successfully lured some 1,500 children and that similar programs would take place in seven other cities across the country, including Bekasi, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan and Cirebon.
