Xiaomi to Sell 100,000 Phones Weekly in India

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chinese cell-phone maker Xiaomi will step up its sales in India to 100,000 units per week from the previous 60,000.

Xiaomi vice president Huga Barra said the company would jack up its production in India next month to meet the target.

Xiaomi has just begun selling its handsets in India and operated exclusively through online retailer Flipkart.

The company, however, met a problem related to its limited available products while its phones were immediately selling out online in India.

Xiaomi has ceased selling its affordable cell-phone the Xiaomi Mi3 in India soon after its release, but planned on continuing to sell it during the Diwali—where sales usually peak in India.

The phone will be offered to the Indian market along with the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note.

In Indonesia, Xiamoi is selling the Redmi 1S smartphone, which is priced at Rp1,499 million, through online retailer Lazada.
