Freeport's Activities Put to Halt due to Mining Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Freeport Indonesia's spokeswoman, Daisy Primayanti, stated mining activities in Grasberg have been temporarily put to halt following an accident that killed four workers. “Employees' safety is our company's main priority,” she said, Saturday, September 27.

Freeport Management, she explained, has reported the accident to the energy and mineral resources ministry. Moreover, she added, shortly after the accident took place, the Grasberg Mine Rescue team was deployed to evacuate its victims. Currently, minor and critically injured victims are being treated at Tambagapura hospital.

The accident that occurred on Saturday morning, September 27, on Jalan Tambang Terbuka Grasberg, involved a light commercial vehicle and one haul truck. In the incident, four people were killed, two in critical conditions, and three with light injuries.

The deceased victims are Luther Patanggi, Simon Seba, Richardo Tomasela, and Nursio. Meanwhile, victims in critical conditions are Komarudin Poleng and Andreas Rahenwin. Then victims with light injuries are Thomas Pieter Siloy, Billy Angresu and Irianto.
