TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said all regional heads around Jakarta had agreed on the construction of mass transportation connecting the regions. “They agreed on mass transportation that connects all regions,” he said on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Ahok met regional heads from Bogor, Bogor regency, Bekasi regency, Tangerang city, Tangerang regency and South Tangerang city. The Depok city government was the only one failing to send a representative. In the meeting, they discussed several urban problems, including transportation.
“I’ve asked cities around Jakarta to be open when Jakarta later wants to build MRT (mass rapid transit) or BRT (bus rapid transit) routes that reach Bogor or Tangerang,” said Ahok, adding that all regional heads had agreed to the plans.
Ahok said he did not have to give incentives to local governments in order to build the new transport infrastructure. “This is our commitment. We help each other.”
Ahok wants the MRT corridor to stretch all the way to Bogor, Depok and even Bekasi in a bid to alleviate congestion and encourage people working in the capital to shift from private vehicles to public transports.
