TEMPO.CO, Bandung – West Java Deputy Governor Deddy Mizwar said stone miners in Bogor had proposed to build mine roads for mining trucks to keep them from using public roads.
“The roads will not be financed by the regional budget, but by miners,” Deddy said on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.
Deddy said the proposal would be discussed in a coordination meeting between the government of West Java and others. The idea came up after the provincial government conducted an operation to curb heavy trucks in Bogor.
According to Deddy, the mine road construction is a mid-term solution to the issues of mining activities, mineral transportation and public road damages.
Head of the West Java Mining, Energy and Mineral Resources agency, Soemarwan Hadisoemarto, said residents complained about the damaged roads caused by mining activities.
“Indeed, there have been violations of transportation tonnage,” Soewarman said.
However, not all of the mining activities are illegal. Government records that at least 120 companies have obtained permits to conduct mining activities.
