TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bengkalis Resort Police captured two crude oil thieves that belongs to PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia in Duri, Mandau Subdistrict, Bengkalis Riau. They were identified as driver and assistant driver of a tank truck with intials ‘A’ and ‘RI’, North Sumatra citizens. The suspects were caught during their travel to Dumai carrying a stolen 30-ton crude oil.
“The suspects and evidences have been secured in Bengkalis Resort Police to be further investigated,” Head of Bengkalis Resort Police Ajun Kombes Andry Wibowo told Tempo on Monday, September 22.
According to Andry, the arrest could be made thanks to informations provided by the community who saw the crude oil theft activity which was thought to have came from Chevron oilfield. Police authorities immediately responded by deploying several personnel to observe the theft activity on Sunday night, September 21.
Both suspects had been detained yesterday morning around 5am. The police had confiscated evidence of one tank truck and 30 tons of crude oil.
Eventhough they had been caught, police authorities had yet to mention the modus of the theft. The police claims they are still continuing to explore involvement of other parties. “We are still developing the investigation case. We haven’t know who is responsible for the hoarding of these crude oil,” Andry said.
