TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Education Department of Jakarta Lasro Marbun said that his Department will combine 685 elementary schools in Jakarta. The number was corrected from the previous statement which mentioned 496 schools.
Lasro said the total number of elementary schools in Jakarta is 2,113. With this integration, the number will be reduced to 1,428 schools. This integration will be implemented starting 2014 to 2018.
“We will arrange schools starting today. The Governor regulation is still under repair,” stated Lasro at the City Hall on Monday, September 22.
The school integration could save the school operational funds up to Rp4 billion. Other than that, the government could also save from other post budget such as principal allowance.
Lasro ensures that this integration will not be a problem. Teachers will be put under one school. However, administration’s employees that handle finance, budgeting, and others will not be repositioned.
This year, Lasro said, 104 schools will be integrated. The number will follow periodization or principal’s retirement. “So there will be about 104 principals that will retire,” he said.
