TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Agrarian Reform National Committee for National Independence chairman Usep Setiawan said agrarian problems should not be taken lightly. “Injustice has always been happening in agrarian affairs,” said Usep on Monday.
He said during the 10 years' governance of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, only a few agrarian cases were resolved. “There are even more cases.”
Thus, he added, agricultural organizations had held agrarian reform conferences to discuss problems besetting the agrarian sector. “It is also one of our agenda for the new government.”
Usep said the new government under Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla was expected to solve agrarian problems. “Jokowi has visions and missions about food security related to agrarian affairs.”
Usep explained the national conferences were generally held to respond to two issues. First, the consolidation of farmers or agrarian fighters to defend their rights. Second, contributing to the new government to realize the people’s aspirations on agrarian reform.
