TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police on Monday beat up and shot four Indonesian military officers’ legs in Batam City, Riau Island, September 22.  The incident occurred when four military officers passed through a location of fuel hoarding raid in Cipta Asri Residence, Trans Balerang Street, Batu Aji, Batam.

“So it wasn’t a clash, it was a unilateral act by the Batam police towards our personnel.  They were beaten and then got shot in the legs,” said Head of Military Information of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Major General Fuad Basya.  According to Fuad, the raid was conducted by Batam’s Resort Police.

Fuad said the two military officers were passing through the location of the raid at the time.  Knowing there was a crowd, the two officers stopped to see what was going on.  “After stopping, they were immediately beaten,” Fuad told reporters.

Not only they were beaten, the police also shot the leg of two military officers.  The incident was seen by two other military officers from the same unit.  “They approached the police to find out what was going on, but instead they also took some beating and got shot in the legs,” Fuad said.

Fuad explained that the four military officers did not even put up a fight.  They are now being treated in Batam Hospital.  Their conditions are quite bad.  The initials of those four military officers are AK, HS, EB and ES.  Their ranks are Private First-Class and Private Second-Class.  There have been no confirmation about the incident from the Police Headquarter.
