TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang administration has welcomed Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s intention to assist Tangerang in addressing traffic jam and flood issues by giving Rp100 billion (US$8.34 million) of fund in 2015. The promise was mentioned by Ahok at the meeting of the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) regional heads several days ago.
Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah said that addressing traffic jam and flood issues in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi cannot be done partially. Therefore, Arief considered that it would need a new breakthrough to bridge stakeholders in the respective cities.
“As a megapolitan city, Jakarta should not burden the neighboring areas,” Arief told Tempo on Sunday, September 21, 2014, adding that there has been no solid cooperation between the regional governments to address the issues all this time.
