TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An app designed to monitor piles of trashes has won the Indonesia Information and Communication Technology Award (INAICTA) for College Application category. The app, named Montrash was made by Turanna Team of Telkom University, Bandung.
Montrash, which stands for ‘monitoring trash’, is an app that is linked to a website that enables users to report piles of trashes in their surrounding. To participate in the monitoring, users are asked to sign up and some personal data will be recorded on the website.
“To make trash-reporting accurate and reliable,” said Restu, one of the members of Turangga Team.
To report piles of trashes, users simply take a picture of the trashes with smartphone. The photo will then be sent to the server to be accessed by the local government. To avoid manipulation and fake information, the application features setting that only enables users to receive and send photos only at the time of photo-taking. Feature to download photos is not available to prevent users sending old photo.
“The photo will have location and coordinates,” said Raden, other members of the team.
If the report is convincing, the government staff will spread the information through short messages to the sanitary workers on duty in 1-kilometer radius from the reported location.
