TEMPO.CO, Edinburgh - Scotland's Prime Minister Alex Salmond conceded defeat in calling on Scotland's people to be independent from the United Kingdom.
"We know it is a majority for the No campaign," Salmond said as quoted by Fox News yesterday, adding that the vote had been a triumph for the democratic process.
The Scotland referendum results showed 55 percent of the people want to stay under the U.K., while 45 percent others chose independence.
Salmond has been known as the Prime Minister who wants to separate Scotland from the U.K. He had been confident after the Scottish National Party (SNP), which he leads, won the parliament election in 2011. Salmond called Scotland to be shackled by U.K. parliament.
According to Salmond, Scotland can be independent from the U.K. with its oil and gas reserves in the North Sea at 24 million barrels for the next 30-40 years. The Scottish government estimated that it will receive 50 million Euros in tax revenue by 2018.
