TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Prabowo Subianto has been elected as the chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) party. Prabowo will serve the dual role as both the chairman of Gerindra Party’s advisory board and the chairman of the party’s executive, replacing Suhardi who passed away on August 28.
"Everyone has agreed to ask Prabowo serving the dual role until Gerindra’s first congress," Gerindra party’s secretary general Ahmad Muzani said earlier today.
Muzani said Prabowo was elected as the chairman of the party by the acclamation at the party’s extraordinary congress attended by 33 representatives of regional and branch executive boards (DPD and DPC)
According to Muzani, Prabowo has been willing to take the mandate as the party’s chairman to ensure smooth transition period. The congress that was started at 10.00 lasted until 1.45 p.m.
