TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Until mid-September 2014, at least 100,000 residents in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta province had been depending on the local government's help for clean water supply in the midst of the dry season this year.
The residents experiencing water crisis are scattered in eight districts, mostly in the southern part of Gunung Kidul Regency.
"Every day, we send five tanker trucks to distribute the water to several areas because water sources are completely dried up," said Head of Gunung Kidul Social Service, Manpower, and Transmigration Agency Dwi Warna Nugraha to Tempo yesterday.
In the meantime, Gunung Kidul local government hoped they would get more regular assistance from the Yogyakarta provincial government so that the frequency of water delivery to the residents would increase and be evenly distributed.
Yogyakarta Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMLG) said this year's dry season in the southern part of the province, including Gunung Kidul regency will persist a little longer than in the northern and central part of the province.
