TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yukata is one of the traditional clothings from Japan made of cotton that is suitable to use during hot weather.
"Yukata is a 'closed' and simple clothing but comfortable when used in a hot weather," the Cultural Division Section of Japan Foundation, Ishma Savitri, said in Jak-Japan Matsuri Tuesday.
This traditional clothing can be used for a man or woman. Only the motives and folding type that adjusts the gender.
In a glance, Yukata is similar to a Kimono that also happens to be the most renowned Japanese traditional clothing.
"Yukata is often referred by people as a Kimono, whereas both have many differences," Ishma said Tuesday.
The difference is that Yukata is made of cotton, having simpler motives, less fabric layer, small ribbon belt and is commonly used after showers for relaxing at home.
Kimono is made of silk, having many fabric layers, many foldings and with more complicated structure.
"Kimono is made of silk, that is why this clothing is usually handed hereditary from families and used for important occasions," Ishma said in a statement.
