TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The peaceful solution offered by Ukraine in the form of autonomous region for Donetsk and Luhansk was clearly rejected by pro-Russian rebels. Donetsk Republic leader Andrei Purgin, said that the offer will not divert them from their main objective of independence and to be united with Russia.
"We have no interest to build a federal political relation of any kind with Kiev," said Purgin yesterday.
The gesture by Kiev was honored by Purgin. He also wishes to open up new negotiations with the government of Ukraine after a successful peace talk which was held in Belarus, Minsk on September 5, 2014. "The negotiations need to continue to yield the best results. Prisoner exchange for example, although it is still a work in progress, we have managed to trade hundreds of people," said Purgin.
Ukraine Parliament or Verkhovna Radha passed a law stating the special autonomy status of Donetsk and Luhansk and the forming of their own government for three years' time last Tuesday. The law ensures the use of the Russian language in the region. The parliament also ratified another law which grants amnesty to the separatists involved in the fight.
