TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta has prepared a total of Rp100 billion in annual budget for surrounding cities, distributed to fund infrastructure construction. "Theoretically, Jakarta has to to support the surrounding areas," said Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama.
Ahok later said the financial support was a result of the meeting between Jakarta Administration and mayors and regents of surrounding areas. It was also meant to put coordinate infrastructure and transportation improvement in and around Jakarta.
Jakarta has routinely given financial support to surrounding cities, said Ahok. However, the number varied and was often insufficient. For the new settlement, Rp100 billion will be included in Jakarta Regional Budget 2015. "The fund can only be used for infrastructure purpose," Ahok added.
