East Java Regency Declares Water Emergency

TEMPO.CO, Bondowoso – The Bondowoso Regency in East Java has declared a state of emergency due to difficulties in finding water. Hundreds of families in 30 villages are suffering from the lack of rain during this year's dry season, which has been going on for the last five months.
The drought emergency status was is in effect from September to October. "The stages of alert have been effective since July 2014. Now we are in emergency status," says an official with the regency's Disaster Management Preparedness Agency (BPBD).
The BPBD cooperates with the Regional Water Supply Company (PDAM) to supply clean water. There are four to five units of tank vehicles with a capacity of some 4,000 liters each, deployed to areas that lack clean water. This program is something done every year.
"This year, conditions are more difficult than last year," the official said.
