TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice president-elect Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, famously known as JK, has said that he will not remove or modify the Religious Affairs Ministry in his administration.

“I have never thought about [removing] it, nor realizing it,” JK said on Thursday, September 18, 2014.

Earlier, the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla administration was rumored to scrap the Religious Affairs Ministry and replace it with the Haj Pilgrim, Alms and Endowments, which was later dismissed by president-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

JK added that changing the ministry’s name would be costly because the government would have to change signs, logo and seal of the ministry across the country.

“The cost would be billions [of rupiah],” he said.

According to JK, removing or changing the ministry’s name would be against the constitution. He also said that he would not expand nor reduce the ministry’s authority.
