TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama is slated to meet with Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto to discuss traffic management issues between the two cities.
Ahok is upbeat that B-plated, Jakarta-registered vehicles would not be banned from entering Bogor. "It really isn't a problem. I'm meeting Bima tonight to talk over the issues," he said at the City Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.
According to Ahok, many Bogor residents chose to register their cars in Jakarta, hence the 'B'-prefix on the majority of the cars registered to Bogor residents. As such, Ahok refused to bow down to allegations that Bogor's weekend traffic jams are caused by Jakarta residents.
"We could also say the opposite, that Jakarta's traffic jams are caused by Bogor residents," laughed Ahok. However, he also said that he would not bar cars from Bogor from entering Jakarta.
The plan to restrict B-plated cars from entering the city of Bogor was first put forth by Bogor Deputy Mayor Usman Hariman. According to Hariman, the Bogor administration is planning to restrict the amount of incoming cars into Bogor, especially those originating from Jakarta.
Reportedly, the plan has been put up for discussion by Bogor's Development Acceleration Team (TP4), which was established under the instruction of Mayor Bima. If passed, the dissemination of information on the restriction will kick off in 2015.
