TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama will study agribusiness management at a land reclamation in South Korea. This agenda is related to the building of giant sea wall or National Coastal Integrated Capital Development (NCICD) plan in Jakarta Bay.
“I want to see the embankment they made,” said Ahok on Tuesday. Integrated area development through reclamation of 17 islands is also included in NCICD project.
Ahok’s visit to South Korea’s giant sea wall is included in the handover of the 18th Asian Games to Jakarta as Jakarta will host the next Asian Games. He said South Korea is successful in building sea wall and utilizing land reclamation to develop agricultural land.
Ahok explained that South Korea developed the land reclamation for business district and housing. The Jakarta government plans to adopt The Saemangeum Seawall system in the southwest of the Korean Peninsula. He said that the agricultural lands in that location have a proportional size to meet South Korea’s needs for food.
Through that visit, Ahok will learn about South Korean government’s assessment in allowing agricultural development in reclamation land. In the long term, the Jakarta government targets agribusiness management is conducted at five percent from land reclamation of every island. “We want to know how South Korea is brave in giving its lands to be developed as agricultural lands,” said Ahok.
Ahok said he would also visit Gangnam District to learn about street vendor management in that area. “I heard that they have good management there,” said Ahok.
