TEMPO.CO, Adamawa - A Nigerian air force jet has been missing since September 12, 2014. The military said on Sunday that the plane disappeared in the country's far northeast, where troops are fighting Boko Haram insurgents.
As reported by Al Jazeera, the aircraft, with two pilots on board, left its base in Yola, Adamawa, at about 10:45 am local time on a "routine operational mission" on Friday and was expected to be back by midday the same day.
"Since then all efforts to establish contact with the aircraft has not yielded any positive result," military spokesman Chris Olukolade said in a statement, without providing further details.
Boko Haram has seized territory in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe in recent weeks, raising fears about a loss of government control in the far northeast and putting pressure on the military to put an end to the armed terrorist group that had followed in the Islamic State's footsteps to build their own free country.
