TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A South Korean fisherman has found a North Korean unmanned aerial vehicle tangled in his fishing net on Monday, off an island near the disputed maritime border, said a military source.
The wreckage - which had no wings, machine or camera - was found in a fisherman's net off the coast of Baengnyeong Island, said a spokesperson for South Korea's Defence Ministry to AFP.
"The shape and colourings resembles earlier drones from North Korea that we have previously encountered," said the spokesperson. Previously in March and April, South Korea has found a number of crashed drones at three different locations - including Baengnyeong Island and the northern border town of Paju.
Military officials said that the memory chips found on those drones contained images of border areas and Seoul, including photographs of the Presidential Palace.
Following a joint investigation with experts from the United States (US), Seoul have acquired enough evidence to conclude that the unmanned aircrafts had took off from North Korea on a pre-programmed flight path, which sends the drones flying above South Korea's military facilities.
North Korea has since denied the allegations, and accused South Korea of manipulating evidence against the regime in Pyongyang.
