TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Abdurahman confirmed that there have been incidents in the mining area of PT Freeport Indonesia.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 12, 2014, 11:30 pm, Eastern Indonesian Time at the West Muck Bay underground mining area, Grasberg Block Cave (GBC), PT Freeport Indonesia Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua.
"There was a ground failure, or collapse of materials in the form of rocks and soil, when ground support activities were being conducted," he said through a short message on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
These materials, Saleh added, then covered most parts of a Jumbo Drill vehicle that was in operation.
One operator Jumbo Drill survived, while one of his colleagues is still being evacuated.
Shortly after the incident happened, PT Freeport immediately deployed an emergency response team (Emergency Response Group) to perform rescue and evacuation efforts.
Earlier, in the press release of PT Freeport Indonesia, the company’s spokesperson Daisy told the press that the materials in the form of rocks and soil fell during ground support activities.
