TEMPO.CO, Padang - At least 205 houses were seriously damaged, 18 houses suffered from medium damage and 187 houses suffer from minor damage following the earthquake measuring 5.0 in Richter scale that jolted Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra early morning, Thursday.
The quake also caused damages to schools and public facilities.
Medium and minor damages hit five schools, four mosques, one community health center (Puskesmas), a 30-meter irrigation canal, and two roads.
Tanah Datar Regent M.Shadiq Pasadigoe said the damages were mostly found in three districts: Batipuh district, X Koto district, and Pariangan district.
Batipuh district, located closest to the center of the quake, suffered the most.
In one vocational school in Batipuh, two classrooms suffered from medium damages and could not be used.
No fatalities were reported from the quake but several residents were reportedly suffering from light injuries.
The Tanahdatar regency administration has imposed a one-week emergency response period until September 17.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 14-kilometers (km) northwest of Tanahdatar and 17 km southeast of Padangpanjang city.
