TEMPO.CO, Washington, D.C - The US and Saudi Arabia have agreed on assisting Syrian rebels in combating the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants.
As reported by Reuters yesterday, the decision came after telephone conversations between US President Barack Obama and Saudi King Abdullah on Tuesday.
"Now what we have is a commitment from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia ... to be a full partner with us in that effort, including by hosting that training program," a senior U.S. official told Reuters.
The US government wants Syrian rebels to have a role in fighting ISIS militants in Syria. Official report from the White House states every training tool needed by the rebels will be provided by the US.
Saudi Arabia has long feared the existence of ISIS because more and more of its citizens are joining ISIS. Previously, Arab League foreign minister agreed to take every step necessary to fight ISIS.
