TEMPO.CO, Fotokol - The Cameroonian government has claimed its soldiers had killed "over 100" Boko Haram fighters during a fight in Nigerian borders which were turned into their base.
In a statement to Al Jazeera yesterday, Cameroonian government spokesman Issa Thciroma Bakary said both sides were involved in an intense fighting in northern Nigeria on Saturday, but Bakary’s statement could be immediately verified.
According to the statement, Boko Haram fighters fired two shells on the town of Fotokol in northern Cameroon which borders Nigeria at around 1 p.m. Saturday.
"There were no casualties reported on the Cameroonian side after the attack," the statement said."
"Our defense forces responded vigorously with mortar fire aimed at the positions held by units of the Boko Haram terrorist group that was behind the attack."
The Cameroonian forces pushed them back to Nigerian border town of Gamboru Ngala which is separated from Cameroon’s town of Fotokol by just a bridge, the government added.
