TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi City Administration claimed that they are overwhelmed by the number of illegal parking in the city. "There has to be assertive measures," said Head of Transportation Department of Bekasi Supandi Budiman.
He later explained that the assertive measures can be in a form of towing the illegally parked vehicles. However, Supandi said that the government lacks an area to impound the car.
Supandi said that people will always have reasons to justify illegal parking. "Vehicle owners say that the closer [they park], the better," he said. "Therefore, illegal parking emerges.”
Regardless, he claimed that illegal parking should not be tolerated. Given that previous attempts such as removing tire tube have failed, the government plans to propose an impound area for illegally parked cars. Supandi said it can be around Bantargebang or Rawalumbu. "[However] we still have to find public space and facility to realize that," said Supandi.
