TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Jakarta's Transport Authorities is sweeping Jl. Akses Marunda for illegal parkings. The sweep caused a 2 kilometers-long traffic jam towards Jakarta's Merchant Marine Academy.
"This is one of the ways to deal with our traffic issues," said the chief of North Jakarta's Transport Authorities Arifin Hamonangan at Jl. Akses Marunda on Monday, September 8, 2014.
To add to the traffic woes, there are ongoing works on the sewage system under Jl. Akses Marunda, which effectively closes up one lane to vehicular traffic, despite the high volumes of traffic on the street.
The sweep took the attention of motorcycle riders, some of which yelled out in support of the authorities efforts. "Blow out their tires!," said a motorcyclist. "Impound the vehicles so they'll never do it again!," said others.
